Seems like I am another person to fall victim to this scam. I wish I had found this forum before buying it.

Anyway, I can't seem to get any videos (avi's) to play. I have tried almost every conversion software to convert but nothing seems to be able to play on my mp4 (keeps coming up with ''File Format Error''.

I also tried following the steps in the how to remove the hack from your mp4, but I can't get it working. When I open the MP3 Disk Utilities it tells me my player cannot be detected, but it is plugged in. I get the same problem with the Firmware updater, it keeps telling me ''Device not detected'' I can browse the phone fine in Windows explorer and I can format from there, but it still tells me there is 4gb. However when I tried to fill it up with mp3's it came up with the ''File Format Error''.

Does anyone have any ideas, or should I just hit it with a large hammer.

Do you know what chipset is used in this player? Older chipsets like the Rockchip 2608A were very finicky about the files that it would play. What settings did you use for video conversion? I recommend that you set the resolution to that of the native resolution of your mp4 player's LCD (Do you know what the LCD resolution is for your player?). Also, drop the bit rate down to 400kbps or less. Also, try a slow frame rate to start like 22fps. Also, try different settings for your aspect ratio.

Your player problems may just be very bad firmware and not a memory hacked one. It's hard to say.

I have just run Chip Genius and it comes up with: Device Name: ++[F:][G:]+USB Mass Storage Device(RockChip USB MP3 USB Device)(RockChip USB SD...

PnP Device ID: VID = 071B PID = 3203
Serial Number: USBV1.00
Revision: 1.00/1.00

Device Type: Standard USB device - USB2.0 High-Speed

Chip Vendor: RockChip
Chip Part-Number: RK260X

Product Vendor: (N/A)
Product Model: MP3 Player

Tools on Web: (N/A)

The player I bought is this one: New 4GB 4G 2.8" Touch Screen MP4 MP3 FM Video Player K1. I hope I am allowed to post links here ?

In viDrop I chose high.ini, but I am not sure which to try. I have also tried in AVI Converter 22fbs which I downloaded from this sight. Still I can't get anything to play.

Yes, it looks like your player is a clone of the Onda VX858LE.

I haven't used AVI converter in a long time - does it give you the option to set the screen resolution - if so, I would try 320 X 240, and if you can, set the aspect ratio to 4:3

Are you able to play any MP3 files on it?

Ah! now that seems to have done it. Thank you Smile Is there anyway of telling if it really is 4gb or not, I have tried formatting it and it still says 4gb. Also I loaded about 1 gb of mp3's onto it yesterday and it wasn't happy, kept saying file error.

Ronnie,

This is a neat little player and you got the best price for it on Ebay. The guy has sold you the genuine article. I say this having just bought the 8gb version from him. I know, getting files to read was a little cumbersome at first. I use Vidrop. You will see the links on this site. This has to be the best conversion programme, so much better than AVI which I found to be a disaster. I use Vidrop along with DVD Fab HD converter, which is a freeware programme, to take off the macrovision (or whatever it might be called) off my commercially bought dvds. I run it through that first and then through Vidrop. There is a good forum related to Vidrop alone which gives you all the operating and download instructions. In order to check the disc capacity I simply connect it to my pc via the usb lead supplied and go to properties on that drive. Mine is a good, solid 8gb. I have also put a 2gb mini sd card in bringing the total capacity to 10gb. Files play really well from the mini sd card, by the way. I use mine mainly for movies. I currently have 20 full length movies along with all episodes from the first series of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. I have put anything permantly on the mini sd card but I will use that to put some of my son's childrens programmes on. All in all, I think this is a good player. You will have a little trouble with sync on some of the transfers. For me, this generally appears to be from region 1 or NTSC dvds. I think I might be right in saying this. I find if you push fast forward a little it gets back into sync on the problem ones, but it will drift. Maybe the subject matter of this post should be changed as you are not part of the Ebay scam.

I'm glad to have been able to have helped.

Do all of your mp3 files say bad file format error or just some of them?

If this in indeed a genuine Onda VX858 or VX858LE then you might want to upgrade to the latest firmware.

BTW: Does anyone know what the differences are between the Onda VX858 and VX858LE? I would make sure to get the right firmware for the right unit or you risk bricking your player.

I don't think it is a genuine Onda, it has no markings or anything on it, no brand etc. Just a silver hologram sticker on the back saying 4GB (Which I am still unsure about)
Thanks for your help David with the video, that seems to have sorted it. Now the only thing left to do is to work out why it can't my player with the MP3 Utilities Disk Tool/Firmware Update.
I'll need to try loading it up again with mp3's and testing it.
Am I right in thinking that pictures need to be resized aswell in order to view them?
Sorry to be a pain and ask all these questions, but the manual that came with it gives no information at all.

To run videos in your player:

First try running a FLV video taken from Youtube. There are lots of ways to get videos from youtube in Google

Download vidrop here and convert any video you have to
video: 320x240 xvid
audio: mp2 128 kbps

it should run in your player

Rennie45, I'm afraid that I don't know what the maximum image size for pictures is on Rockchip 2608A based players but a safe thing to do to try is to resize them to 320X240 (QVGA size).

It is possible that you have an OEM unbranded version of the Onda VX858/VX858LE. Can you post a pic of the box that the player came in?
It could, of course be a clone.

As DaremoS mentioned, VIDROP is great for videos for your player.

Hi - first posting on this (very informative) site !
I too got one of these 8Gb touch screen units and had the same problems. Its a nice little unit but the manual is garbage. Mine came with Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter 3 which seems a good application, but you need to set the parameters up - after a lot of fiddling I found these worked
XViD codec
Summary:
Bit rate: 341kbps
Video:
Format: mpeg4
Size: 320x240
Frame rate: 24.00fps
Audio:
Format: mp2
Bit rate: 64kbps
Sample rate: 44100Hz
Channels: Stereo

You may need to tweak them a bit. I am going to try the ViDrop app next !

In your parameters one parameter can be optimized for more enjoyment not affecting performance... audio you can put a higher value try 192 ... or even higher... 256. Always being MP2 which is the trick of Rockchip players.

Video bitrate can also be higher if you aren't satisfied with image... up to 600.

And of course using xvid which is another trick of Rockchip players.

The rest is as it should.

Yeah, the viDrop and AVI Converter seem to be working fine now.
David, I have a pic of the box but I can't find out how to upload it here, seems you have to have it on another website.

Hi rennie45,

You can upload pictures/images in our [Gallery/Photos] section (link on the left hand side menu bar).

Or you should be able to attach images to forum post as well. When you create a post, you should see an [Add Attachment] button.

Hope that helps.
