[solved] Can't get any videos (avi's) to play

For Rockchip players you have to set the size to EXACTLY the native resolution of the display (e.g. 320x240) If the movie is widescreen, then it has to be padded out top and bottom so it's 320x240 no matter what the picture size actually is.

They will tolerate several framerates, but they have to be integer. You can't do 23.98, f'rinstance.

viDrop is the answer for doing the converting. Don't even bother with anything else.

I use 15 fps and about 90 kbit/s 2-Pass for the video and 48 kbit/s for the audio. Works fine and the movie is only ~100 MB. Very important to tick the 2 Pass box. The picture is just slightly artifacty but, hey, this isn't Home Cinema. I'd rather have 30-odd movies to choose from, which I do, as well as hundreds of audio tracks. I use MP2 at 64kb/s which sound just fine to me. The only thing I wish for is longer battery life.

Thanks for your nice effort compiling instructions for Rockchip players... I feel that you have just some confusion with sound codecs used for your conversions:

1- How do you set WMA in viDrop ... I wouldn't be able to find this codec in my last version of viDrop (0.56.2).

2- How do you make Rockchip player work with WMA when the only limitation for rockchip players is to have sound in MP2?

Maybe you are using the new version of Rockchip players RK2706... and this version allows WMA?

I never said I was using wma in Rockchip. I use it for Pocket PC. I use WMA2WAV to rewrite the wma headers so VirtualDub gets fooled into thinking the wma is a wav. I do this to get really tiny movies when size is more important than quality. I play them on TCPMP.

Oops, I looked back at my post and saw that I did say WMA when I meant MP2. Sorry about that. I've corrected it.

I'm sorry if I confused anybody into thinking I was using wma in viDrop.

Yes this RK2706 handles lots of formats and many of them without conversion.

AVI: without conversion between certain limits (no idea which limits)
FLV, RMVB, ASF, 3GP, MPG
