I just got my MPx player today, one of those Glacier types. Bought it from rogerlam628. It's supposed to be 4GB.
Yes this is the first time here, but I've always been fast to hacking something, anyway, I turned it on and realized the GUI looked like crap. So I went to google and found this site, went reading, and found that I could have been scammed. Well, I already had music on it and I didn't want to open it up, so I thought maybe I could take a look at the firmware. Mine has version 9.1.51, so I found it couldn't be modded but no, I was still gunna try.
I found s1clone v1.1. When I went to use it it displayed info about the flash chip.
This is the exact line: flash chip: 2555D5EC "HYNIX/SAMSUNG 2048MB (LBF)" (protected =0)
Last I checked, 2048 MB isn't 4 GB.
So yea, Also, maybe someone could develop a way to open up these s1clone images.
Anyway, I'm about to contact him now, anything in particular I should say?

You still need to format the player to remove the memory hack otherwise you will have problems with it such as restarted, freezing, file format errors.
I would contact the seller which is a known scammer and tell him what you found out. Most likely, he will respond and try to blame it on you, the manufacturer, or claim it is an honest mistake. He will probably tell you to ship the player back at YOUR cost and he will give you a full refund. I wouldn't do it as you are most likely never to see your money or another player again. If you paid thru Paypal open a dispute through them. If he refuses the full refund unless you ship the player back, you might want to accept a partial and keep the player. Find out how much 2gb players are going for and offer to take that.

Your player apparently has 2 GB onboard storage. If you paid for a player that advertised 4 GB storage, then contact the seller and tell them you didn't get what you paid for. If the seller does not offer to refund your money, then open a dispute with Paypal (assuming you paid the seller through Paypal).
Do not do anything with your player, up to and including flashing firmware, etc. until you have heard from the seller about what they plan to do about selling you a player that is not as advertised.

I purchased a 4GB "nano" style MP4 player from rogerlam628. Paid $46 for it. I was warned about probable hacking and shipping from China by another Ebayer, after I purchased it, so I sent him an email saying that I didn't want it if it was a hacked 2GB and being shipped from China (description says "Ships from Canada"). He emailed me and told me not to worry, because he "doesn't cheat customers", and shipping would be quick. That gave me a slight reassurance, because he knew that I could tell what a hacked player was.
Well, it arrived in about three weeks, which I didn't think was too bad for shipping from China......but of course, it was a hacked 4GB, that was really a 2GB.
I told him that I would report him to Ebay, PayPal, and leave negative feedback if he didn't resolve the problem. Of course he told me to ship it back at my expense. I told him that I would not ship it back at my expense, and to either send me a real 4GB, or another 2GB to make a total of 4GB, or give me my money back. I ended up agreeing to take a partial refund of $17. I don't think $29 is too much for a working 2GB player....plus, I figured any kind of refund was better then nothing.
So after I got the refund, I left negative feedback on Ebay. He just emailed me yesterday asking for me to remove the negative feedback. I told him that I would....when he ships me what I paid for, which is a true 4GB player. I told him I would even give him his $17 refund back. He hasn't answered me yet.

Way to go, dude! More of this kind of action will tip potential buyers off to the scams of these losers.
I salute you!

I was also scammed by this guy earlier this month!
I'm happy i found this site as atleast i now have a working 2GB player.
I contacted him saying that it was only a 2GB player and not 4GB he said he didn't believe me and could i prove that it was only 2GB!
I went a little overkill and emailed him pictures of the windows format information and a picture of the Flash Ram chip (with the serial number clearly visible) and gave him the link to Samsung's web page which can decipher the chip code to show what it is, then gave him a full breakdown of what the code meant and how that proved it was a 2GB chip!
He then just emailed back saying that he didn't understand my email but would be prepared to offer a full refund if i posted it back or a partial refund.
Clearly i wasn't going to mail it back (and it does work fairly well as a 2GB player) so i asked for the partial refund option.
Just to get things in perspective the player cost me just over £21 inc. postage and he just came back offering me a £1 partial refund!?!?!
Needless to say i emailed him back asking him to revise his 'offer'
Am waiting to see what he has to say next!

devcloud , perhaps you could search over ebay and compare the average selling prices of 2GB players. Then ask for the difference between the 2GB players and your player.
Keep those emails that he replied you. You might need them if you open a dispute over paypal.

It angers me that ebay allows this fraud to go on. I was conned a year ago!
You buy from Hong Kong, worrying that nothing will turn up. So when it arrives you're so releaved that you give positive feedback. It's only weeks later that it stops working properly and you end up at this wonderful site.
For what it's worth I've reported some of rogerlam628's 4GB listings to ebay.

good luck with the refund.

Hi all,
Just registered, cos I wanted to share my frustrations with like-minded individuals and thank you guys who posted info on how to remove the hack on rogerlam's mp3players (I am somewhat technologically challenged, and the directions were great, THANKS!)
I bought a 4GB player, and to my *amazement* (ha! googled this dude a week ago and found all this info on his scam) after I re-formatted the player, it is only 1.89GB! And if that weren't bad enough, the lying about item location, and then he says in his listings that he will post out item within 48 hours of payment - he didn't send it out for 2.5 weeks! he lied twice, saying he'd sent it, but it was only when I got really antsy about it and threatened to contact ebay that he actually sent it (although still didn't get sent for a further week - I checked the post mark stuff)...
I've only just removed the hack, and have sent him a long, long email pointing out all my issues with him(including pointing out that his practices, as the ones I have personally experienced, are against ebay policy, and he is even committing FRAUD). I mentioned his location being wrong, the delay in post, and the crap layer. i do not want to send it back at my own expense, so I have insisted on half money refund. I have no problem going to ebay if he stuffs me around...
Thanks also to the person on here who mentioned sending phoos as evidence of the player being hacked etc - I did the same - pics before and after, plus pic of the sticker saying 4GB on back - just so he couldn't claim the wrong product was sent....
Just gotta wait for a response now...

Seems like it is a new tactic for these scammers to send the players at a much later date after paying. Perhaps trying to lessen the effect of the 60day limit of Item Not Significantly Described.
By sending it out a few weeks late, would have cut the 60 day limit by almost half. And for the unsuspecting buyer, they probably might not know or have any problems until after a few more weeks. By then, maybe the 60day limit is up and they can't file any claims.
Hongkong/China to the rest of the world does not take a few weeks. Except for a few countries where customs take a long time to clear your mail, or if you tie the package to a pigeon's leg to fly across the Atlantic.
I've bought players from Hongkong and China before, all via normal airmail, and it took just about 5-7working days after they posted it out.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought, too...but I had the dates all worked-out, so if I hadn't received the player by a certain date, I was filing - unfortunately, that will not cover me if the player decides to die in a few weeks time...that's why I'm so insistent about hassling this bloke for a partial refund...He still hasn't replied to my email (sent mid-morning). I know he's been on ebay, cos he's left positive feedback for a number of buyers...but he's clearly ignoring me...So I emailed him again earlier this evening, a mere five minutes after he left feedback for someone (and one could assume he was still online)...still nothing.
Oh, he's getting this greek chick hot under the collar, I tell ya...
P.S. Has anyone actually had a proper read through the instruction manuals sent out with the products??? Looks like it was translated from Chinese to Russian to French to Pig Latin, and then finally to english - parts are utterly incomprehensible! "Press MENU to enter the son menu of stop."...Is it me, or is that difficult? I started out pressing all these buttons trying to work out basic functions...and still having a hard time, until I read the manual 9or tried to), and found out that I shouldn't be pressing/pushing buttons, but PLUCKING them...ah, it all makes so much sense now....a delicate pluck like the string of a finely-tuned guitar.

Thank goodness I found this! I am in the same boat. I bought an MP3/Mp4 player (4GB but no doubt 2 GB) in the middle of September. "Roger" sent an email and said that he sent the package 5 days after I won the auction. I have yet to recieve it, so I emailed him. He returned my email with the tracking number for a package, saying he sent it out and should get it soon. Well, the tracking number he gave me says only that it's destined for the US but not a location. Also it says that he just mailed it out on Saturday! That's 21 days after purchase and 15 days AFTER he said he mailed it in the first place! I am so angry!
