Hi Frank,

So what shows up on your TV screen? Just the normal main menu items?

Please check to make sure you've definately put the .bin file in the MAIN root of your player? It needs to be in the root/main folder of the player and NOT under any other folders.

You can also try, while connected to the TV, u have to "browse" for the file. Then select the .bin file to execute the firmware update.

Let me know if that works?

I figured it out, it appears to be your file name. "wintek_8281AHDD_ver1.03_0316.bin" wouldn't work until you rename to "DVDROM.bin".

After the Fireware upgrade, I tested it out but everything still remains the same, I still unable to play DivX files, and some of the Xvid files.

I found some info and I will send them to you including my files see if you can help me work it out.

Thanks.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the update.
I will get back to the manufacturer and let him know. I will ask for them to update the firmware to enable newer versions of the codecs as well.

It will play divx and xvid movies, but not all versions of divx and xvid though, esp the newer versions. That's the problem right?

After months of playing around with different compressions I still no closer figuring out why it doesn't play some of the DivX and Xvids. It appears to be the video compression and frame rates. I still can’t figure out why.

Those movies with the following plays okay.

Frame rate 23
Data rate 150 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 23
Data rate 146 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 25
Data rate 116 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 23
Data rate 167 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Yet those with following doesn’t play

Frame rate 23
Data rate 132 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 25
Data rate 120 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 23
Data rate 128 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

After months of playing around I think I got it nail down to why it play some DivX and Xvids. It appears to be the video compression and frame rates. However I still can’t figure out the similarity between all those files. They are all different yet some plays and some don’t

Those movies with the following plays okay.

Frame rate 23
Data rate 150 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 23
Data rate 146 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 25
Data rate 116 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 23
Data rate 167 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Yet those with following doesn’t play

Frame rate 23
Data rate 132 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 25
Data rate 120 kbps
Video sample size of 12 bit
Video compression Xvid

Frame rate 23
Data rate 128 kbps
Video sample size of 24 bit
Video compression Xvid

Are you able to tell me where I can find more informaion on the PHP129. Like what the data and Frame rate ranges are, what compression type it allows and what don't etc.

help please
Thanks

Hi Frank,

Wow, that's a very indepth investigation.

I will ask the manufacturer to see if they have any plans on updating the firmware for you.

Hopefully something might come about from it.

Just a question, what if you convert the movies you can't play to DivX 3 or DivX 4 instead? I think maybe some of the movies are using the newer codec instead which the firmware might not have installed as yet......?
